Every business is using broadband more and more every day, from remote access to checking the latest share prices.
There is several important factors when considering which broadband provider to use.
Contention rate
This is dependent on where your office is located and how many other businesses need to use the same exchange. The lower the contention rate, the faster the speed you will generally receive.
Common contention rates are: 50:1
Low cost broadband providers will give you a low monthly fee but with a contention rate of 200:1 or more. For home users this maybe ok but when your running your business off broadband its crucial to get the right speed.
Dedicated lines are available but at a high cost.
Speed
Broadband speeds are increasing every few months with speeds of up to 16MB on a shared line, the up to phrase is important to look at, as this generally means your speed would only be 16MB if you are the only user on that line at this time. Its important to get a guaranteed and maximum speed.
Other factors can be considered, i.e. wireless internet, capped usage etc.
